The Old Stables Holiday
Cottage in The New Forest, Lyndhurst - Local Information
Lyndhurst: Lyndhurst - is historically
the Capital of the New Forest, the name itself is taken to mean"the
lime wood" although the native limes are thought to have
disappeared from Lyndhurst due to soil impoverishment. Among Lyndhurst's
treasures are the Queen's House and the Verderer's Court; the
parish church with its fresco by Lord Leighton and fine stained
glass windows; the church at Emery Down; the charming almshouses,
and the Girl Guide headquarters at Foxlease. The Parkhill Hotel
now stands on the "Old Park" of Lyndhurst, the new park
sited on the A337 Brockenhurst road. Other treasures must surely
be the varied forest, running from the heathland of Parkhill to
the bog of Matley, and the open forest with its ancient oak and
beech to the enclosures of softwoods. St Michaels Church is opposite
the entrance to The Old Stables, read more about it here.
