Rhinefield Bothy has the most idyllic location of all New Forest Cottages, set in over an acre of gardens directly adjoining the New Forest itself with direct forest access. Our neighbour is the Rhinefield House Hotel, with whom we share the access from the Rhinefield Ornamental Drive. From the garden gate into the forest you can walk for miles on forest paths without seeing a car or a road all day long, but ponies, deer, other walkers and cyclists. You are able to abandon the car for the whole break here if you want to really get away from it all, as the cycle tracks which link up the whole New Forest are accessible from Blackwater, opposite, and Bank, with it’s village pub, and larger villages Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst are an easy cyle ride away safely on the tracks.
Rhinefield Bothy was converted from a large vinery, the gardeners bothy and a small cottage belonging to Rhinefield House, over the years at different stages, and still features the original ironwork in what is now a very light kitchen/dining space, with views over the large back garden from the full length of this room. The cosy but spacious lounge is directly off this central space, with two sets of french windows opening to the front garden and large deck, enclosed by the beautiful outside wall of the listed walled garden.
Children love the large garden at Rhinefield Bothy, where there are wide open spaces for playing ball games, frisbee or flying a kite, and various smaller areas to explore. The open back garden can all be seen straight from the kitchen and dining spaces, and the large front garden from the lounge and the conservatory playroom, families can be together while each doing what they enjoy.
Walks from here are beautiful, you will not need to go out in the car first – you are already there! This is particularly useful in a larger group that would mean several cars needed to be used to go out. Dogs are most welcome here, and usually love chasing the rabbits in the garden, and can enjoy walks each day without bundling into the car first.
Brockenhurst is a delightful New Forest village, with ‘the splash’, a ford where the stream runs through the village. There’s plenty of pubs, restaurants, sandwich and coffee shops, as well as bookshop, several antique shops, bakeries and two small supermarkets. Lyndhurst is similarly sized, and known as the ‘capital’ of the New Forest, again with a choice of pubs, tea rooms and restaurants, local shops and a small supermarket.
The kitchen/dining room at Rhinefield Bothy is central, with views across the garden and a good sized dining table for up to all 24 guests. If Rhinefield Bothy is taken with Vine cottage, next door, and everyone is to dine together, an extra large table is provided so that all can eat in this huge light dining space.
At one end of the room is the kitchen, which has freestanding Ikea Udden stainless steel kitchen units providing ample worksurfaces and storage. There are twin stainless steel gas cookers and two large freestanding fridge/freezers, two dishwashers and a washing machine. The base and wall units house all the cooking and dining equipment needed for your break. The purpose designed kitchen and dining arrangement here makes Rhinefield a wonderful large cottage for adding a chef-catered meal for a special evening in, with no washing up to do, no tables to set, or taxis to arrange home, as you’re already there!
Through a double door wide opening in one side is the lounge, a large, warm, cosy room with a woodburning stove and lovely outlook over the front garden. This has a television and DVD player, and plenty of contemporary armchairs and settees making a very comfortable room. There’s also a double sofabed in here providing an extra bedroom where required.
There are another eight double and family bedrooms at this large cottage, each normally arranged with a double bed and one or two singles. There’s some flexibility for groups whose requirements differ slightly. Three of the bedrooms are at one end of the long, large cottage, which share a bathroom, with three more bedrooms at the other end, again with a nearby bathroom. Each end has a large family room overlooking the back garden, and doubles or smaller family rooms with front or back garden views. The other two bedrooms are central, off a lobby from the main dining space, and again share another bathroom. These two bedrooms overlook the front garden and deck, one has french windows to access this, and the other has a conservatory at the end which doubles as a playroom with toys, books, games and tables and chairs where children can read or draw amongst lovely surroundings with plenty of light. The three distinctive bedroom regions work well when 3 or more families share the cottage, or where a large group can arrange themselves to be near their closest friends.
Each bathroom has a wc, basin, and a bath with a shower over, with glazed bah screen. As most of our cottage bathrooms, each has a heated towel rail.
